Plaza 400
Plaza 400, precisely located at 400 East 56th Street, was completed in 1968 and was designed by Architect Phillip Birnbaum and Associates. At the time it was known to be one of the tallest structures and one of the more luxurious buildings in Sutton Place. Rising 40 floors and housing 627 residences, Plaza400 utilizes seven-passenger elevators to carry up its many tenants, all of which we recently modernized. As you walk inside the elevator cab you are instantly greeted with the impressive full panel Statuario Venatino marble featured throughout the elevator. The striking veining of the marble is defined and bold, which adds an element of uniqueness to the design. Looking up, the drop ceiling is faced with Nickel Silver mirror finish by Rimex Metals. The same Nickel Silver is also used for the reveals, frieze, and base. The fronts are faced with Stainless Steel #6 finish. The use of full-length marble panels and nickel silver accents allow the design to speak for itself. The Statuario Venatino marble is the principle element utilized in this design to construct a luxurious, elegant, and minimalistic aesthetic for residents at Plaza 400.
