222 EAST 44TH STREET
INTRODUCING 222 East 44th Street, Murray Hill's new trapezoid-shaped luxury residential high-rise. Designed by Handel Architects and completed in 2018, "the through-block [building] fronts both 43rd and 44th Street, and sits halfway between Second and Third Avenue, creating a rare opportunity to design a freestanding building [amid] the dense urban fabric of Midtown East." Summit - as the building is now known - rises 42 floors and features over 400 units. Carrying its new tenants to their luxury apartments are three newly constructed elevators. All of the elevators are designed with a raised removable panel system. The side walls consist of three horizontally stacked panels that are faced with Dolomite Oasis stone and divided by stainless steel mirror finish inlays. The focal point of the elevator is its captivating back wall. It features an EOS light panel system that illuminates through two "Snow White" back-painted glass panels with a laser-cut, geometric, stainless steel overlay resting on top. The friezes, bases, reveals, and ceilings are all faced with stainless steel mirror finish. The same geometric overlay found within the elevators is also found throughout the lobby of the building, creating continuity between lobby and elevator. The melody and use of materials create an opulent and modern ambiance, rivaling only that of the buildings architecture and interior.
